iPad Market Share 73% in Fourth Quarter

image

New competition from the android camp, has caused a pretty big drop in Apple’s tablet market share.

While there is no reason to sell Apple stock just yet, it is interesting how quickly a competitor has come along and taking 20% of Apple’s market share.

According to the International Data Corporation (IDC) Worldwide Quarterly Media Tablet and eReader Tracker, 10.1 million media tablets were shipped in the fourth quarter of 2010 (4Q10) - more than double the 4.5 million shipped in the third quarter. Apple’s share came down from 93% in 3Q10 to 73% in 4Q10, but still reflected Apple’s strong leadership position. Samsung’s Galaxy Tab was the primary competitor in the holiday season, beating other players to market and capturing more than 17% share, while a number of smaller regional players also participated.

Instagram Adds 130,000 New Users Per Week!

image

I downloaded this app twice and removed it twice already.  Now however, I am using it regularly.  I didn’t quite “get it” before I guess, but now that their API is open, other apps like Momento (the ultra cool, social diary app) is able to catch your Instagram uploads and more.  Not familiar with Instagram?  It’s a social photo sharing site where you can make little adjustments to the photo like cropping, B&W and other effects.  However, it is really about the photo.  Our sister site is ProPhoto Coaliiton so we’re keen on photography here!

Google Docs Now Editable on iOS devices

image

Frankly I scratch my head as to why this wasn’t available much, much sooner.  However, today is the day that Google starts rolling the ability to edit your docs on your mobile device.  I for one am very happy.  We keep our corporate budgets, and more online in our Google Apps Docs.  Now we can add data at will no matter our location.

Samsung Galaxy Tab Price Compared on US Carriers

image

Engadget did all the hard work on this, so I suggest you click on over to their site.

What this represents to me is that AT&T doesn’t look so bad in the price wars here.  Of course, you are then stuck with AT&T service…

Dell Streak Froyo Updates Start Today

image

Why unlocked streaks only?  Not sure really.  All we know is that our update hasn’t arrived yet and we’re anxious to test the new Stage UI from Dell in this update.  We tried going to the Dell mobile download page, and it was of no help.  Guess we need to wait for the OTA update…

Here’s the scoop direct from Dell:
Phase 1 : Beginning today, Monday, November 15, 2010, an OTA update will be available to customers who purchased their Streaks as unlocked units. These units will be upgraded first because they do not have to go through the carrier approval process. Unlocked units are generally popular outside the United States and can be identified by the fact they are able to be used with a SIM card from any carrier network. The rollout of the upgrade will be gradual with different regions and versions of Donut and Éclair updated over the weeks following November 15, 2010. When a user’s device is ready for an update, the user will be notified by an update icon in the notification…

Samsung Galaxy Tab On Sale at AT&T Nov. 21, $649

image

Set to damage my credit card on the 21st, the $649 is for a no-commitment plan.  Meaning, if you’re not ready for an upgrade, your going to pay full boat.

There are two options for connectivity;  $14.99 for 250MB, or $24.99 for 2GB.

Now, since I already have an Android phone, I do understand that this is basically a larger android device, sans phone.  What to I get that’s more?  Well a larger battery.  However I must get this if only for the sake of testing on the site…right?
